Peer Support Services
Aug 13th, 2024
The Canadian Mental Health Association – Edmonton Region (CMHA-ER) hires Peer Support Workers (PSWs) who are specially trained through the CMHA-ER Peer College. Peer Support Workers are people who have faced and overcome their own mental health challenges or struggles with addiction. They use their personal experience to support others who are working through similar difficulties.
Peer Support Workers can be hired to help with:
- Independent Living Skills: Teaching skills for living independently, like managing money, finding housing, or organizing daily tasks.
- Advocacy and Wayfinding: Helping people speak up for their needs and find the right services, like counseling or support programs.
They meet with people by appointment to share their knowledge, experience, and encouragement. The goal is to help others take steps toward living more confidently and independently.
