Why It Matters

For some callers, the Distress Line is the first, and sometimes the only, connection they have in a moment of crisis. In 2024 alone, our team answered 11,445 calls, with over 20% related to suicide. Each call is a chance to support someone through their most difficult moments.

“I had been feeling overwhelmed and low lately. To the point that it’s frightening. I chatted with the listener on the DL, and I am beyond grateful that I did. If I hadn’t reached out that night, I probably would not be here talking to you and my kids would not have a father. Your staff really helped me feel HEARD and helped me understand that there was a different possibility outside of ending my pain. That’s what it takes to PREVENT those situations from happening. Thank You.”
